Riddle me this. Who's corporate rule book do you think this quote comes from:
"Rule #1: Use your best judgment.1) Google.com
"Rule #2: See Rule 1.
"That's it. That is the one hard and fast rule. Unless a serious mistake was made when you were hired, you have pretty good judgment."
2) Wired magazine (those kookie dot-commers are just crack ups...)
3) Tribune Co. (parent company of Chicago Tribune and LA Times to name just a few)
Answer after the jump...
That quote is in fact from the Tribune Company's new employ handbook as reported by Washington Post staff writer Frank Ahrens. The article goes on to quote some choice passages from the "mix of corporate earnestness, surprising folksiness and common-sense rules." I highly suggest reading the article just for the sheer honesty and genuineness of it. I personally think that Chicago Tribune will be turning it's ship around and fast, especially now that it's a private company and has a man at the helm who recognizes that the Tribune's company wide website platform "sucks." PLEASE follow that last link as it's an article from The Hartford Courant (another Tribune Co. holding) about Sam Zell's visit there. It has some amazing quotes which, again, make me think the right man is steering the ship there now. For example:
"For change to come about, however, there must be a fundamental change in how the business is approached, with an emphasis on becoming 'a 24-hour online interactive business that publishes once a day for the record.' - Kenneth R. Gosselin, The Hartford CourantNow that's the kind of thinking this industry needs! Talk about a 180!
